101 FRAG ARTS
Art exhibit from November 23rd 2023 to January 23rd 2024
In this fascinating artistic concept called Frag Art, artists explore new horizons by fragmenting their own unfinished or unsatisfactory works, creating a bridge between the original creations and their reinvention. Each fragment obtained is then entrusted to another artist, who takes on the task of infusing it with new life, a new identity.
In my brand new collection of 101 small abstract works, with dimensions of 5" x 7", I immersed myself in the role of the artist, sometimes creator, sometimes receiver of these fragments. Initially, I had twelve large printmaking lithographs in my hands that remained unfinished from a prior project, and which I decided to use for this new body of work. With spontaneity and a rough touch, I used a large graphite pencil to scribble over the paper, poured acrylic ink, and manipulated a brush loaded with fluorescent acrylic paint, giving birth to destabilizing compositions before tearing them into 5" x 7" pieces.
My bold goal was to create 101 abstract artworks within a month using the principles of automatism and expressionism without being too hindered by reflection. To quickly enrich my creations, I spontaneously incorporated collages by tearing images from other works of mine and incorporating them intuitively here and there. Except for some pattern fragments, all the collaged elements come from my own creations. After working on over 180 pieces, I rigorously selected 130 fragments that seemed most promising. From there, I reintroduced my intuitive process by adding additional pencil marks, collages, paint, or acrylic ink as needed. To maintain a neutral mindset, I intentionally destabilized myself by intervening quickly and sometimes abruptly to disrupt the pictorial compositions, thus preserving my artistic objectivity.

Dans ce fascinant concept artistique baptisé Frag Art, les artistes explorent de nouveaux horizons en fragmentant leurs propres œuvres inachevées ou insatisfaisantes, créant ainsi une passerelle entre les créations originales et leur réinvention. Chaque fragment ainsi obtenu est ensuite confié à un autre artiste, qui se charge de lui insuffler une nouvelle vie, une nouvelle identité.
Dans ma toute nouvelle collection de 101 petites œuvres abstraites, d'une dimension de 5" x 7", je m'immerge dans le rôle de l'artiste tantôt créateur, tantôt récepteur de ces fragments. Au départ, j'avais entre mes mains douze grandes estampes en lithographie qui restaient à l'état d'ébauche. Avec spontanéité et une touche brute, j'ai utilisé un crayon graphite pour griffonner, versé de l'encre acrylique directement sur le papier, puis manié un pinceau chargé de peinture acrylique fluorescente, donnant ainsi naissance à des compositions déstabilisantes avant de les déchirer en morceaux de 5" x 7".
Mon objectif audacieux était de créer 101 œuvres abstraites de façon automatisme et expressive en l'espace d'un mois, sans trop me laisser freiner par la réflexion. Pour enrichir rapidement mes créations, j'ai intégré de façon spontanée des collages en déchirant d'autres images de mes propres œuvres et en les incorporant ici et là. À l'exception de certains fragments de patrons de couture, tous les éléments collés proviennent de mes propres créations. Après avoir travaillé sur plus de 180 pièces, j'ai rigoureusement sélectionné 130 fragments qui m'ont semblé les plus prometteurs. À partir de là, j'ai réintroduit mon processus intuitif en ajoutant d'autres marques de crayon, des collages, de la peinture ou de l'encre acrylique au besoin. Afin de maintenir une neutralité d'esprit, je me suis volontairement déstabilisée en intervenant rapidement et parfois brutalement pour bousculer les compositions picturales, préservant ainsi mon objectivité artistique.
